Scottie Barnes teaches the Nets a basketball lesson!

Not at best for 15 days with three big defeats, the Raptors reacted perfectly by winning 133-97 on the floor of the Nets, their compatriot Steve Nash. Already deprived of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons, the Nets also had to do without Steve Nash, and the Raptors quickly took advantage of it. With a ubiquitous Scottie Barnes, and a very good Precious Achiuwa in paint protection, the Canadians take off immediately with 42 points scored in the first quarter.

The Brooklyn collective is completely disjointed, and despite the second knives who find the circle better than the holders, the team struggles and at the break, Toronto is already very far (71-48). The second period is only a formality and a long “garbage time”, and the Raptors win by 36 points!

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

Steve Nash absent. Present at the pre-match press conference, Steve Nash was ultimately not present at the time of the in-between. The fault of the Covid protocol, and it was Jacque Vaughn who replaced him.

James Johnson too aggressive. The veteran wanted to mark the start of the match with his muscles… Missed! After only 6 seconds of play, he takes his first foul on a shot from Scottie Barnes, then on the next action, pushing hard Pascal Siakam in the back, he goes on a second foul in less than 23 seconds of play! He obviously quickly joined the bench.

Scottie Barnes, Sir 100%! With 24 points at 10/10 on shots, the Florida State rookie delivered a perfect score in the first half. This is unheard of for a rookie since Derrick Rose in 2009! Easy near the circle, and forcing no shots, Barnes took his team on his broad shoulders to put the Nets under water. Not to mention the 9 rebounds (7 offensive!), 3 assists, and 4 steals to crown a first part of the XXL match!

17. Like the number of interceptions made by the Raptors during this meeting. Pickpockets Scottie Barnes (5), Gary Trent Jr. (also 5) and Pascal Siakam (3) set the tone in defense, stealing ball after ball. The size of this team is truly impressive.

TOPS/FLOPS

✅Scottie Barnes. The rookie delivered a real good match at Barclays Center. With 28 units (12/14 on shots), 16 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists, he made everyone agree. Very applied in attack, and biting in defense, the winger released a monstrous performance and calmed the Nets throughout the evening. Sublime in fundamentals and collective spirit, he has all the tools in hand to become one of the future bosses of the franchise. Masai Ujiri still had a fine nose…

Precious Achiuwa. The “flying Nigerian” does not make frills, and is diabolically efficient on both sides of the floor. His 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists are solid numbers, but it’s his game intelligence that makes him shine in this formation. Always at the service of others, and taking advantage of the crumbs left to him in attack, Achiuwa is “so Precious”.

Five of the Nets. Frankly, there’s not much to take away from the Nets, and the starting five has the whole team down. Between the clumsiness, the lack of automatisms or even the delay in defense, they showed absolutely nothing.

Pascal Siakam. 2/14 on shots for the Cameroonian, who sent some beautiful bricks, forcing a little too much (the hand) on the shots. He seemed out of it on several occasions, arguing a bit too often with the referees. An evening to forget, nervous as rarely when frankly, it was not necessary.
