Among the multiple suitors who could emerge if Rudy Gobert is put on the market, the Raptors would have a solid card to play. Focus on the trade that could allow them to snatch the French pivot from Jazz.
His future at Utah has clearly darkened in recent days. Still unable to offer his franchise a long playoff run, Rudy Gobert is likely to leave the Jazz in the coming weeks. His departure would indeed be favored over that of Donovan Mitchell, and his profile more appreciated in the four corners of the league. He could notably generate a tempting offer… from the Raptors:

According to Ian Begley, the Toronto Raptors are among the teams that should express a degree of interest in setting up a trade for Rudy Gobert if he becomes accessible.
How the Raptors can sign Rudy Gobert
Since the title won in 2019, and the successive departures of Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry, Toronto has been trying to rebuild itself. A process in which they perform, with an unexpected 5th place this season in the East (48-34). But to reach a new level, Canadian leaders could thus be tempted to get their hands on Gobert, and the team would be one of its best equipped to welcome him. This could for example be done via the following trade:
- The Raptors receive: Rudy Gobert
- The Jazz receives: OG Anunoby, Gary Trent Jr., 1st round picks 2023 and 2024
As far as the Raps are concerned, Gobzilla’s contribution to an already solid defense without him seems obvious, and justifies a big investment. This is good, since they have the assets to do so.
First of all, the two voluminous contracts that are those of Anunoby and Trent Jr. serve as perfect bargaining chips for the sake of salary matching. Both are also coming out of big individual seasons (respectively 17.1 and 18.3 points per game), and would offer Utah a long distance address that was missing in these playoffs against the Mavericks.
But the most tempting for the Jazz would undoubtedly be the prospect of recovering several first round picks, valuable in the long term or directly exchangeable to recover a big star. This is good, since Toronto has all of its future first-round draft picks, except for 2022. Danny Ainge and his assistants should therefore be able to find their happiness in all of this!
The Raptors will definitely be one to watch in the Rudy Gobert case, especially given the many 1st-round picks they can draw in possible negotiations. The Fred VanVleet – Pascal Siakam – Gobzilla alloy would then be very much to be feared!
