On the wire, the Raptors break the Bucks' winning streak

No Giannis, no victory! After eight straight wins, the Bucks lost 97-93 in Toronto, and Milwaukee came close to pulling off the perfect hold-up. Trailing since the first quarter, and even trailing by 11 points in the middle of the 3rd quarter, Khris Middleton’s teammates are nibbling their delay to respond to a great Fred VanVleet (26 points in the second half).

Result: after a 3-pointer from Bobby Portis, Milwaukee is only three points behind with 30 seconds remaining. Fred VanVleet does not tremble on throws (95-90), but Precious Achiuwa fouls on a 3-point attempt by Khris Middleton. The Bucks shooter puts the first two throws, misses the 3rd and Bobby Portis takes the rebound! New fault of Precious Achiuwa!

Spectators and substitutes are standing. Bobby Portis puts in the first pitch, misses the second, but he still snatches the offensive rebound after a deflection from Pat Connaughton. The Bucks therefore have the match point with 10 seconds to play, and they find this same Connaughton in the corner. He’s all alone, and he misses! Achiuwa takes the rebound, but misses his two throws behind… Fortunately, Scottie Barnes takes the offensive rebound, and it is the inevitable VanVleet who scores the two throws of the victory.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

– Giannis Antetokounmpo’s package. It wasn’t until 30 minutes before the innings that the Bucks announced that their best player would not be in uniform. Officially, the “Greek Freak” would suffer from a sprained ankle. Milwaukee in “back-to-back”, the staff did not want to take any risk.

– A fluctuating address. The Raptors sign a superb 6 of 10 from 3-point range to take control in the first quarter. But then they miss seven winning shots in a row… An irregularity that almost cost them dearly since the Bucks almost made the hold-up.

– Breakdown of passes. We often praise the Bucks collective but tonight, Jrue Holiday’s teammates have only 16 assists. It is their lowest total of the season.

TOPS/FLOPS

Fred VanVleet. He’s the new boss of the team, and he behaves like one. The point guard scored 13 of his 29 points in the last quarter, and he did not hesitate to throw in the last minute. His second half is perfect, and we will remember his 7-0 to give a nine-point lead in the last quarter.

Pascal Siakam. The Cameroonian is back to his best level, and it was in defense that he was impressive. He sacrificed himself, to the point of going out for six faults. We also saw him come out of the balls and without the clumsiness of his teammates, he would not have been very far from the triple-double. Another full game for him.

Pat Connaughton. He brings energy and aggressiveness but when shooting, his arm shakes. Like his evening (2 out of 7 on shots), he missed the victory ball, alone in the corner. He could however be the hero of the evening for Milwaukee.
