It's the Bucks' turn to take a basketball lesson in Memphis

After the Nets (and the Pacers), it was therefore the defending champion who came to trip over the carpet at the FedEx Forum despite the absence of Ja Morant.

The Bucks tied the game in the first quarter (32-28) before giving in to the aggressiveness of the locals, carried by the Bane-Jackson Jr pair and the contribution of the Jones-Melton-Williams trio, on the shot exterior in particular. Memphis thus passed a 13-4 to break away (52-38) and preserve its lead until the break (59-44).

While we waited for Milwaukee’s reaction in the second half, the Grizzlies managed their gap rather well in the third quarter, between Desmond Bane’s shots, Dillon Brooks’ good pass and a De’Anthony Melton still clinical with three straight 3-pointers in less than a minute to make it 93-71.

Although Giannis Antetokounmpo (18 points over the period) kicked into high gear to try to preserve a bit of suspense, Kyle Anderson’s 3-pointer and Desmond Bane’s floater in the last second of the third quarter kept Memphis at +19 (98-79).

The Grizzlies quickly secured the victory in stride, relying once again on Desmond Bane with his two aggressive drives to the circle, then his interception concluded with a lob pass for Ziaire Williams to secure the shot (102 -83). Jaren Jackson Jr completed the success of his team with a left hand dunk before going to the bench and witnessing the final victory of his team, 127 to 102.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

– One more demonstration. Even if Milwaukee evolved without Jrue Holiday, the Grizzlies still impressed by their determination and their collective despite the absence of Ja Morant. A bit like against Brooklyn, the Bucks put out a big performance to clinch another prestigious victory.

Racquet masters. Beyond the case of Desmond Bane, the Melton-Jones pair to compensate for post 1 and the winning return of Dillon Brooks to the wing, this match was an opportunity to measure the impact of the Grizzlies racket against the Antetokounmpo-Portis-Lopez trio of the Bucks. Not only Memphis dominated in the fight to rebound (54 to 46), we could see the always valuable contribution of Steven Adams who was replaced this evening by an impeccable Xavier Tillman in the absence of Brandon Clarke. Does this team have a weak point?

TOPS/FLOPS

Desmond Bane. Like his team, the back plays with great confidence. And like the rest of the team, he knows how to raise his level of play when the conditions demand it. Another solid game from him, with the grand finale to finish the job early in the fourth quarter.

De’Anthony Melton Between Tyus Jones and him, Memphis has plenty to see when Ja Morant is not in uniform. De’Anthony Melton stood out with his outward address and his repeated and-ones in the second quarter. But what about his 12 points in the third quarter and his heat stroke that almost ended the hopes of the Bucks.

Khris Middleton. The Khris Middleton we don’t like to see. Too behind and therefore not in rhythm, he had a complicated evening in attack, 16 points at 5/16 in shooting and 5 lost balls to accompany his 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

THE FOLLOWING
