Emblematic face of Milwaukee, could Giannis Antetokounmpo yet set sail? This is what a terrifying rumor suggests recently! It even comes from the mouth of the Greek Freak himself… but there is also a big nuance.
In just eight years, Giannis Antetokounmpo has forged an immortal status in the history of the Bucks. The Greek interior has already won everything with the franchise that drafted him in 2013: Double MVP, Best Progression, Defender of the Year. And then, there is this title of champion in high point, to obtain last year with the trophy of MVP of the Finals as a bonus. Difficult to do better within one and the same team.
In a sense, however, it also means that the Greek Freak has taken everything he can from the Daims. He therefore has to find new challenges… and these could be outside of Wisconsin, as he explained to Zach Barron of QG. The journalist recounted the words of No. 34, in particular that he does not wish to rest on his laurels and always go further:
Giannis: “My next challenge might not be in Milwaukee”
“One of the challenges was to bring a title here and we did that,” he told me. “It was very difficult, but we did it. Very, very hard. I love challenges. What’s the next challenge? The next challenge might not be here. It’s not that he doesn’t like Milwaukee, he said. But he was always wary of things getting too easy. “Me and my family have chosen to stay in this city that we all love and have taken care of – for now,” Giannis said. “In two years, that could change. I’m totally honest with you. »
There, absolutely every fan of the franchise must be sweating. Could the best player in the history of the franchise (with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) leave his family soon? According to Alex Saratsis, there is no reason to panic at the moment. Indeed, it is not in the projects of The Alphabet to leave soon. He simply reflects on what he still wants to accomplish as goals in his career:
I don’t think it’s, “I’m thinking about leaving the Bucks.” But I think he’s sincerely like, “Okay, I’ve reached the top. The next challenge is, let’s say it again. But what if you repeat? What’s the next challenge? What’s the next hurdle? When you think about it from a basketball perspective, at 26, this kid has accomplished it all. So sometimes you’re going to have to manufacture what those challenges are.
Like a LeBron James when he left Cleveland in 2010, Giannis has only known a small market so far in Milwaukee, and could be tempted by a big-bore experience at the end. of his contract in 2026. He will then be 31 years old, and therefore still have a few good years ahead of him. Playing in cities like Los Angeles or New York could be very attractive to him, and that would be understandable.
Everybody calm down in Milwaukee, Giannis Antetokounmpo will not be leaving anytime soon. However, it should not be assumed either that he will spend his entire career with the Daims… After all, many things can happen in the course of a career.
